Fukuoka is a key city in West Japan with a population of 1.5 million. Fukuoka Prefecture is populated by 5 million residents. Its history dates back over 2,000 years, older than Kyoto or Tokyo. The iconic festival of Fukuoka is the, "Yamakasa" and aboasts the history of over 750 years.
Fukuoka City is also one of the leading commercial cities in Japan. It is known as a town for computer game and other software industes. Fukuoka Prefecture is the home of automotive industry following Aichi Prefecture.
Fukuoka City is one of the four cities in Japan alongside Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya where professional sports matches, baseball gamesl, sumo, football and basketball are held.

As the entrance to Kyushu and Asia, Fukuoka is visited by and bustling with a large number of tourists every year. It is listed as the seventh "most livable cities in the world" by the British global information journal Monocle (2016), and currently gathering international attention.
One of the factors which makes Fukuoka a livable city is its low cost of living. The chart indicates that the food prices are lower than other cities.
The rent is relatively low on national average, contributing also to less living expenses.

Fukuoka is known as one of the top gourmet cities in Japan. Among the famous food items of Fukuoka are tonkotsu (pork bone broth) ramen, mizutaki (chicken stock pot), fugu (blow fish) dishes, mentaiko (cod roe), motsunabe (giblet hotpot) and sushi. There are a number of top-class Western confectionery shops in Japan.
